As we celebrate United Country Real Estate's 100-year anniversary, it’s amazing to reflect on the journey from our humble beginnings to the expansive network we have today. It all began in 1925, when Roscoe L. Chamberlain founded the company in a world where the automobile was still a new marvel, and the idea of sending a man into space belonged only to the pages of science fiction books. But Chamberlain had a vision for the future—a vision that would redefine rural real estate for generations to come.
The Birth of a Vision
Roscoe Chamberlain saw firsthand the challenges faced by those trying to market properties in small towns and rural areas to buyers far beyond the local market. At the time, many property sellers struggled to connect with potential buyers in the bustling cities and distant regions where demand for rural properties was growing. So, Chamberlain took matters into his own hands. He founded United Farm Agency in 1925, seeking to fill the gap between sellers and buyers in underserved areas. His goal was simple yet ambitious: to make it easier for people to find the country homes, vacation properties, and investment lands they dreamed of, in places they might never have visited—or even heard of before.
The first United Country office opened in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and by the end of 1926, UC had expanded to 42 agencies with a record 245 sales. This marked the start of something big. The original office in Fayetteville is still operating today, proudly serving its community and continuing its legacy after 100 years in business.
